From vision to clickable prototype: Beezwax worked with The Q Foundation to define the right MVP features, map the user experience, and design interactive mockups - giving their mission-driven app both clarity and momentum.

Overview

The Q Foundation, a nonprofit focused on preventing homelessness, saw an urgent need for a digital solution to help tenants pay rent and build credit. Partnering with the Beezwax product consultants and design team, the RentRX project transitioned quickly from a high-level vision to a feature-rich application.

Pay Rent. Build Credit. Earn Rewards. Do Good.

Challenge

The RentRX project translates social impact goals into a user-friendly mobile app while ensuring legal and financial compliance. It focuses on enabling secure, remote rent payments and building an individual's credit score to support users effectively during challenging times while also donating to charitable organizations. Additionally, the app integrates multiple financial services, including a payment gateway, bank connectivity, and credit reporting, to create a seamless and cohesive experience for users. A major challenge in UX design was balancing complex features with a clean, elegant interface. We needed to keep powerful backend workflows and third-party integrations accessible without overwhelming users.

FROM PLANNING TO EXECUTION.

Ideation and Feature Prioritization

To start, we hosted whiteboard workshops (both in-person and virtual) to map out core user problems, including rent payment, social lending, nonprofit assistance, and credit building. The Beezwax consulting team collaborated with the client on a comprehensive five-year financial model that layered tiered-pricing scenarios over staffing, operations, and marketing projections. This model captured variables, including projected user adoption rates, so the client could immediately see the impact on cash flow, break-even points, and long-term viability.

Once we had a clear understanding of the app’s potential and its business drivers, we moved from abstract planning into sketching concrete solutions. By distilling high-level goals into user journeys, we were able to decide which flows to wireframe first, such as account onboarding, rent payment wizards, and credit-reporting confirmations, ensuring each screen aligned with the brand, social mission, and financial constraints. These early sketches became the blueprint for our interactive prototype.

The design process focused on clarity and trust. RentRX needed an interface that could make complex financial tasks, like rent payments, credit reporting, and emergency fund access, feel simple and intuitive. By blending thoughtful layouts, clear language, and a mission-driven visual style, the design team created an experience that works seamlessly while reinforcing RentRX’s core values at every step.

Explore the Prototype

Our design team used Figma to transform static wireframes into a functional demonstration and proof of concept for the UI. This interactive model allowed stakeholders to walk through user flows, validate design decisions, and ensure the app’s interface delivered on its promise of simplicity despite complex backend processes. What you see here is a small sample of that prototype work, which proved invaluable in securing alignment across design, nonprofit leadership, and engineering partners.

Project Management and Consultative Financial Planning

Beyond design and product guidance, we also consulted the stakeholders on financial planning for RentRX. Drawing on prior startup experience, our team built a five-year projection model that included tiered pricing scenarios, staffing needs, operating costs, and marketing spend. We advised on the impact of third-party integration fees, user adoption assumptions, and potential revenue streams, creating a dynamic spreadsheet that allowed the client to toggle features and instantly see effects on cash flow and break-even points. This advisory role was geared to strengthen investor conversations and provide confidence that the app could scale sustainably.

The Success Story

Our work gave RentRX a solid foundation to move forward with confidence. Through workshops, financial modeling, and collaborative planning, we helped the team align around the most critical features for launch while providing stakeholders with a clear picture of long-term sustainability. The result—a mix of consulting and design—produced complete user flows, polished mockups, and a clickable prototype that gave RentRX clarity and momentum, accelerating investor conversations and positioning the app for development.

The app is currently in the testing phase; the clarity and momentum created during this phase represent a success in their own right: turning a mission-driven idea into a ready-to-build product. RentRX now stands positioned for real-world impact—pay rent, build credit, earn rewards, and do good.
